Q: What power options are available for the EV12-FM Radar Speed Sign?
A: These radar speed signs can be made in either solar powered, AC powered, or rechargeable lithium-ion battery powered. However, the standard sign is solar powered.
Q: What kind of pole should I use with this sign?
A: We suggest you use a 4”-5” diameter circular metallic pole, ideally, or a 4”x4” wooden pole. For Telespar posts, or similar square posts, we strongly recommend you use a 2” variety.
Q: What is the difference between Bluetooth Data Collection vs Cloud Data Collection and why should we be using it?
A: Both have the ability to collect data through the radar sign, however using Bluetooth requires someone to be on site to download and receive all the data through a Microsoft device connection. Whereas with the Cloud, you can remotely download all data directly to your device. The Cloud is an excellent feature when there are many signs placed around the city that require frequent data analyzation or if the sign is placed in an area that is not easily accessible.
Q: How far away can the radar speed sign begin detecting a vehicle?
A: The EV12-FM has a pickup distance of up to 400 feet from the sign.
Q: At what speed will the sign detect motion?
A: The sign will pick up anything traveling at 1 MPH and up, however it is recommended that you set the sign to start detecting at 5 MPH, as anything under this will be excessive. The 2-digit speed display will show miles per hour from 3-99 mph, or kilometers per hour from 5-99 km/h.
Q: If I choose a battery powered option how long will the sign operate on a fully charged battery?
A: The battery power depletion rate will vary by location and situation. Many variables affect the battery use including the number of vehicles passing the sign, the sign’s settings, and the environment (temperature) where the sign is installed. If choosing the Rechargeable Lithium-Ion Battery option, we recommend purchasing an extra battery so that one battery can be operating the sign while the extra battery is being recharged.
Q: What data will the radar speed sign collect?
A: The sign will collect data regarding the average speed, time of day, number of cars, etc. and will also allow you to easily compare the data through the customizable reporting system.
Q: What size sign is recommended?
A: For improved speed management it is recommended that if the speed limit is 40 MPH or under, an 11” or 12” sign is used. If the sign will be placed in an area where the speed limit is between 40-55 MPH, a 15” sign is recommended and if the sign is placed in a 55 MPH or over zone, an 18” sign is recommended for higher visibility.
Q: How long is the warranty for this sign?
A: The radar signs are covered for up to 2 years; however, the battery is covered for up to 1 year.
Q: Do the radar speed signs come with stealth mode?
A: Yes, every radar sign that we sell comes with stealth mode. This allows you to still collect data when the sign appears to be turned off.
Q: Does this sign come with mounting hardware?
A: Yes, the sign comes with the Standard Pole Banding Mounting system which includes mounting brackets, and stainless steel banding straps that secure the sign to the pole. You can upgrade the sign to the Universal Mounting Bracket system which can be used to mount the sign to any pole or a wall.
Q: Can I customize the message that populates on this sign?
A: Yes, the EV12-FM radar speed sign has display settings that offer 4 Custom Message slots, or you can program 1 custom animation that can utilize up to 4 Custom Message slots. Custom messaging is only available on the following radar speed signs:

Q: Does this sign have a strobe light?
A: Yes, every sign comes with a strobe light. The strobe speed can be adjusted and turned off within the sign’s settings.
Q: Why is the shipping cost for this radar speed sign higher than I expected?
A: The shipping cost covers the extra care taken by palletizing the sign and shipping it via LTL freight. These handling measures help ensure the sign is delivered in new condition.

Q: Can this radar speed sign be used with a dolly or trailer?
A: Yes, this sign can be used with the Radar Speed Sign Dolly (SKU# TL-DOLLY) and the Radar Speed Sign Trailer (SKU# TL-TRLR). If you plan to use the trailer, you will need to upgrade your EV12 sign’s mounting system to the Universal Mounting Bracket system. The dolly includes a Universal Mounting Bracket system as one of its features.
